About Our Chapter
Zion Teenshop is the charter chapter of Teenshop, Inc. founded on June 15, 1985 by Elleanor Jean Hendley at a north Philadelphia church. The chapter, since relocated to Berean Presbyterian Church, is still going strong after 25 years of service focused on the goal of empowering teenage girls with useable and effective life-long skills. Today there are numerous Zion alumnae who embody our message of "positive, productive and concerned citizenship" in their professional and personal lives.
Our annual college tour requirement has taken us to Lincoln University, Bryn Mawr College, Delaware State University, Princeton University, and Albright University to name a few. Over the years, our Community Service projects have included Service to Seniors, Berean Community Food Cupboard and Clothing Closet, setting up an after school program classroom, volunteering for the October Gallery’s African American Art Show, and participating in the ABC Thanksgiving Day Parade. Some of our workshops this year have been presented by a local TV news reporter, an Information Technology System Project Manager, The National Association of University Women (our chapter adoptees), a Health Counselor & Educator, A Family and Grief Therapist, and a Beauty Consultant. All of these professionals willingly shared their expertise with our teens.
At Zion, we strive to create a family of women and girls forever connected, "working in harmony", that genuinely care about each other. We consistently encourage academic excellence, "good moral character", self-esteem, heritage, dignity, honor and perseverance, tools of success no one can argue with. Currently we have two young women who are graduates of our program and who serve on our leadership team. Their commitment to re-invest in our community is a testament of what we hope to accomplish at Zion Teenshop. Our five officers consider it a blessing to contribute to an organization committed to devoting time, talent and resources to empower our future leaders who are "role models for other youth to follow". We hope the time they spend with us at Zion Teenshop will leave a lasting impression that will influence their "standards of excellence in all their endeavors."

It was a busy Saturday morning for Zion Teenshop. Along with chapter leaders, the girls performed community service at the Alliance for Progress Charter School in North Philadelphia. They painted murals, set up a library in the cyber center, and painted on the playground, seating area and garden, in addition to weeding in the garden.
